These are the three rules for life:
First: Through life you must move one step at a time. You cannot leap forward. You must move very patiently. Everybody has his own pace. Many try to press forward as fast as they can go; many have expectations of themselves that even God does not expect of them. Cardinal Newman used to pray: "One step is enough for me".
Second: In life you must always move forward. You cannot keep looking back. God's people had to keep moving forward, and even the sea parted in front of them. Lot's wife was turned into a statue of salt because she stopped to look back...
Third: When you have achieved the fruits of this journey, then you can enjoy whatever you will, in any place you like. Because, he who possesses God in his heart, can overcome everything. We are not condemned to go through life imprisoned. God has created us for HIS JOY.
