We live in a world of many things and all of us accumulate certain "personal possessions", the mementos and trophies of our efforts, the objects of our enjoyment. It is important to inspect our attitudes toward these things, in order to avoid two somewhat opposite dangers.
First, we can fail to use and enjoy the good things which God has given to us. Second, we can be so in love with these things that they own us: body, mind and spirit.
These things can preoccupy us, make us so concerned about them that we gradually lose our freedom and capacity to love one another.
"Where your treasure is, there your heart will be."
Jesus encourages us to use and enjoy the good things the Father has given us, but he asks us to save our hearts for God and for one another. When we love things, we use one another.
Pray that you may enjoy all your good gifts: the sunrises and sunsets, the music and poetry of creation. The tastes and fragrances of each new day. The sights and sounds of the earth. That your heart may be saved for love, and that your love will always be for God and for those that He has given to you to cherish. Pray that you will love persons, use things. Thus you will be fully alive for God's glory.
