The Arrival

Poems

by Rosemarie E. Bishop

      The spirit world awakens
      and brings a message
of love and wondrous things to come.
      "Stay alert," a voice calls,
      "for the one you're awaiting
      is already there."
An excited chill runs through me,
then a sigh of relief escapes
as I hear these words and know
      that it's true.
      The seals have been opened.
      The cups have been emptied.
      The trumpets have made heard
      their resounding songs.
      "Where is he?" someone asks
      of the voice that belongs
      to a being, unseen.
      Then the clouds roll up
      and evening stars appear
to share the midday sky with the sun.
      A man approaches,
but from where he came I cannot say.
He seems to have appeared from thin air.
"Is that you, Lord?" someone asks the man,
who smiles and holds up a bleeding hand.
      "It is," the man says
      as He opens His arms.
"Be settled. I've always been here."
