Face-lift?

A contractor once recounted about a time when he wanted to sell a warehouse, which had been abandoned for a number of years. The place had been broken into, its doors smashed open, all the fittings were gone, garbage was strewn all over the place, the wooden beams were all set to collapse. Therefore, in an effort to entice a prospective buyer into a deal, he started reassuring the man that he would install new fittings, fix and restore the doors and windows, carry out a survey on the beams and ceiling promising to replace them if these were not up to standard. However, the other man quickly stopped him: “Don’t worry, my friend! I have not intention whatsoever of fixing the place up... My plan is actually to pull the whole thing down and build new premises. All I am really interested in is the ground...!”

With God it is the same. He does not want to give a face-lift or whitewash our lives by making us a little bit better. God wants to do away with the “old” being in order that he could build our whole life anew. He does not want to purify our stagnant waters, but He wants to turn that water into wine.

The only condition that He requires is... our permission!
