Your web site's GUI – Graphical User Interface, is the engine of your web site. Navigating from one page to another should be as easy as ABC, without the need to make use of your browser's navigation buttons, i.e. Front & Back buttons, whenever possible. Try to use consistent navigators throughout your web site. If you use side navigators or top of page navigators, try to keep them consistent in all your pages. It should be intuitive for a user to understand the logic of your web site’s navigation. The trick is to keep it simple!
Good practice is to have a Main Menu in all your pages which links to all your major sections. You should make use of Sub-Menus to link to pages in each relative section. You should be able to navigate from one page to another, and from one section to another with ease of navigation without getting lost.
It is very important to have your Home Page linked in all your pages, as you do not know from which page a visitor will enter your web site. It all depends on how your site is indexed. A user may make a search say for 'cars', and the search engine will get him to one particular page in your web site, not necessarily your main page, unless you instruct Search Engines to index only your Home Page.
For long scrolling pages remember to include a 'Top of Page' link so that users does not need to scroll up again to access your web site's navigators.
Some users may prefer to include a Menu at the bottom of each page, but remember, try to make your pages load as fast as possible. If we take this Tutorial as an example, I have included a simple navigator at the end of each page, which logically makes sense. So always adopt navigators as need be.
