User GuideMETA Tags Explained

    Having an excellent web site is not good enough if you do not have the correct META Tags. The META Tags will instruct Search Engines
    on how to handle your web site. This is a direct channel between your web site and Search Engines.

    Below are some of the most commonly used META Tags in web pages.

META Tag

Content

Abstract

A brief description of your site

Author

Name of author or organization associated with that web page.

Copyright

Enter your Copyright notice

Date

Date your web page was created/modified.

Description

Description of your web site/web page content. In most cases Search Engines will display this in browsers.

Distribution

Instruct Search Engines on how your web page will be distributed to the World Wide Web. Usually 'GLOBAL' for everyone.

Expires

Enter an expiry date if you wish a page not to be indexed after a certain date. Enter 'Never' if you do not want it to expire.

Keywords

Since some Search Engines use keywords to categorize sites, create good keywords representing the contents of your web site.

Language

Language used for your web page; example: 'English'

Rating

Enter your site rating in terms of targeted audience. For a family friendly site enter 'General'.

Revisit After

Enter after how many days a Search Engine should
revisit your web page.

Robots

This will instruct Search Engines how to index, and what to index in your web site.

 

      META Tag Format:
      <META NAME="META Tag" content="comment"

      Example:
      <META NAME="Rating" content="General">
